Edging Saw for Breast Benches
Woodtalk, April 2004
Boutique
sawmills in both Australia and New Zealand all recognise the
need to increase production but without the hassle of a major
revamp
and, more importantly, maintaining the flexibility of the breast
bench. Southern Cross Engineering saw this need and came up
with an solution - a second positional pop-up edging saw.
Mitchell Bros. Darfield.
New Zealand, worked alongside SCE on the installation of the
first machine at their sawmill in late 2003. Tony Mitchell,
Managing Director, comments "We're very limited for mill space
and only wanted to have 2 machine centres, cutting 70 to 75m(cubed)
per day with a high degree of accuracy. This pop-up power bench
gives us the flexibility of a breast bench and the benefits
of an edger". He went on to say that the full benefits won't
be realised until they install an efficient roundabout system.
