Big interest in SCE open days

Timberman April 2002

BRISBANE: The successful Southern Cross Engineering open days run at the company’s Tiangalpa showrooms on March 7, 8 and 9 attracted more than 60 visitors representing many sectors of the timber industry – sawmilling, wood processing, lattice manufacture, sawdoctors and consultants.

The open days, likely to become an annual event for SCE, showcased a wide range of machinery and equipment sourced from the UK-based Stenner Ltd, System TM, Denmark, Spida New Zealand, Wadkin, UK, Auswide Saw and Tooling, and Western Pneumatics Inc.

Machinery-minded company executives and managers from New South Wales, Victoria and many parts of Queensland inspected new multihead resawing technology, optimizing cross cut saws, in-feed/out-feed docking systems, sorters and graders, mechanical handling equipment and knife grinders.

One of the star attractions at the display, was System TM’s Opti-Kap 2002 optimising cross cut saw designed for cross sections of different wood species or finished components with outputs from small volumes to 9500 running metres per shift.

A display by Wadkin again heralded the return of the famous UK-designed moulders with demonstrations of smaller-scale Wadkin models suggesting the reappearance down line of bigger machines.

Southern Cross Engineering’s technical marketing executive Darrin Milnes said the open days had generated huge interest from all quarters with many sale contracts signed during the three days.

SCE recently arranged installation of a System TM optimized cross cut saw, Wadkin HT Delta 60-metre/minute moulder and Wadkin automatic straight knife grinder at Coffs Harbour Hardwoods to complements the sawmill’s two proven Wadkin machines and grinder.
